The quarter-by-quarter breakdown shows exactly how tight this cup tie was: Steaua took the first and third frames, Brasov claimed the second and fourth, and the difference ultimately came down to a three-point swing in the closing minutes.

First Half: Trading Blows

BC Steaua Bucuresti started the stronger side, dictating pace and finding success with an aggressive pick-and-roll attack that produced layups and kick-out threes. A 20-18 opening quarter put them narrowly ahead. Corona Brasov adjusted in the second, tightening their defensive rotations and forcing Steaua into tougher contested shots. The result was a 21-17 frame and a 39-37 halftime advantage for the hosts.

Neither team shot the ball particularly well from beyond the arc, which turned the game into a physical, possession-by-possession battle. Offensive rebounds and second-chance points became the most valuable currency on the floor.

Second Half: A Cup Tie Decided Late

Steaua reclaimed the lead in the third quarter, riding a 19-17 frame to carry a narrow edge into the final period. The momentum swung back and forth through the first five minutes of the fourth, with neither side able to open a gap larger than four points.

The decisive sequence came with roughly three minutes remaining. Corona Brasov converted a contested basket in the paint, forced a Steaua turnover on the next possession, and turned it into a transition layup that pushed the lead to five. Steaua responded with a three-pointer to cut the deficit to two, but Brasov's free-throw shooting held firm down the stretch, and a final Steaua attempt to tie rimmed out at the buzzer.

Standout Performers

Corona Brasov's interior presence was the backbone of the win, combining efficient finishing around the rim with crucial defensive rebounds in the fourth quarter. Their point guard managed the tempo well, slowing the game when Brasov needed to protect a lead and pushing the pace when quick points were available.

For BC Steaua Bucuresti, the backcourt carried much of the scoring burden and kept the team in the contest with timely shot-making. However, a quiet night from the bench and a handful of costly turnovers in the final period proved decisive in a game decided by a single possession.

Tactical Story

This was a classic cup basketball contest: physical, defensive-minded, and decided by execution rather than talent gaps. Brasov's ability to control the defensive glass limited Steaua's second-chance opportunities, while their patient half-court offense forced Steaua to defend for long stretches, leading to late-game fatigue and compromised closeouts.

Season Impact

Cup victories build belief, and for Corona Brasov this result is more than just progression in the bracket. Beating a club of Steaua Bucuresti's stature provides a psychological boost that can carry into domestic league play. For Steaua, the exit is a frustrating one, particularly given how close they came to forcing the game into the final seconds with a chance to win.

What's Next

Corona Brasov advance in the Romania Basketball Cup and will prepare for their next cup fixture with confidence in their defensive identity. BC Steaua Bucuresti will refocus on league commitments, where their depth and experience should still make them a difficult opponent over the course of the season.
