Šiauliai claimed a convincing 79-63 road victory over Jonava in the Lietuvos Krešinio Lyga, controlling the game from the second quarter onwards with disciplined defence and efficient perimeter shooting. The visitors never trailed after half-time and steadily pulled away in the fourth quarter, handing Jonava a frustrating home defeat in Lithuania's top division.

Match Overview

The opening quarter was competitive, with both teams trading baskets and Jonava briefly leading behind some early three-point shooting. But Šiauliai tightened up defensively from the second period onwards, closing driving lanes and forcing Jonava into contested, late-clock attempts. As the hosts' shooting cooled, the visitors built a lead they protected with maturity.

Quarter-by-Quarter

• Q1: Šiauliai 22–16 – a strong finish to the opening period gave the visitors the edge.
• Q2: Šiauliai 19–15 – defensive pressure extended the lead into double figures.
• Q3: Tied 18–18 – Jonava competed hard but could not reduce the deficit.
• Q4: Šiauliai 20–14 – a decisive closing stretch sealed the win comfortably.

Key Moments

Jonava's best opportunity to get back into the game came early in the third quarter, when a 6-0 run trimmed the deficit to seven and energised the home crowd. Šiauliai answered immediately with back-to-back three-pointers from the wing, restoring a 13-point cushion. From that point, the visitors controlled the tempo and never allowed Jonava to string together consecutive scoring possessions.

Tactical Story

Šiauliai's defensive game plan was the foundation of the win. They switched aggressively on screens, closed out hard on shooters, and forced Jonava into a high volume of difficult mid-range attempts. The hosts finished with a low shooting percentage and managed only 63 points, well below their typical output.

On offence, the visitors played unselfishly, generating open looks through drive-and-kick actions and maintaining excellent spacing. Their three-point shooting in key moments — particularly in the second and fourth quarters — repeatedly broke Jonava's momentum and kept the home side at arm's length.

Standout Players

• Šiauliai guard Tomas Petrauskas – 21 points and 5 assists, the game's leading scorer.
• Šiauliai forward Mantas Jankauskas – 16 points and 10 rebounds, a double-double anchor inside.
• Šiauliai guard Rokas Urbonas – 13 points, all in the second half, including two crucial third-quarter threes.
• Jonava guard Dainius Kavaliauskas – 17 points, one of the few hosts to shoot consistently.

Standings Impact

The victory is an important road result for Šiauliai in the Lietuvos Krešinio Lyga, strengthening their position in the upper half of the table and extending a positive run of form. For Jonava, the defeat highlights the importance of finding secondary scoring options when their primary shooters are contained. A 16-point margin at home is a difficult one to absorb, and the club will be looking for a much sharper defensive response in its next outing.
