Kosice Wolves vs HBK Prievidza: Prievidza Power to 104-77 Road Win

HBK Prievidza delivered a statement performance in the Slovenska Basketbalova Liga, defeating Kosice Wolves 104-77 on October 4, 2026. The visitors controlled the game from the opening quarter and never let Kosice build enough momentum to mount a serious comeback, turning the contest into a one-sided affair by the second half.

The win strengthens Prievidza’s position in the Slovenska Basketbalova Liga standings and highlights their scoring depth, while Kosice Wolves are left searching for answers after a difficult night on both ends of the floor. Prievidza’s 104 points were the product of sharp ball movement, efficient perimeter shooting, and a defense that consistently disrupted Kosice’s half-court sets.

Match Overview

Prievidza started with purpose, racing to a 27-18 lead after the first quarter. Their guards pushed the tempo early, creating open looks in transition and forcing Kosice into rushed decisions. Kosice found some offensive rhythm in the second period, but Prievidza matched nearly every basket and carried a 52-38 advantage into halftime.

The third quarter decided the contest. Prievidza outscored Kosice 28-19, extending the lead to 80-57 and taking the home crowd out of the game. Kosice continued to compete in the fourth, but Prievidza’s bench maintained the defensive intensity and closed out a convincing 27-point victory.

Quarter-by-Quarter Breakdown

Key Moments

• A 10-0 Prievidza run late in the first quarter turned a narrow lead into a double-digit cushion.
• Early in the third quarter, Prievidza used a 13-2 burst to push the margin beyond 20 points.
• Kosice briefly cut the deficit to 16 in the third, but Prievidza answered with back-to-back three-pointers.
• Prievidza’s reserves opened the fourth with a steady 8-2 run that ended any realistic hope of a Kosice comeback.

Tactical Story

Prievidza’s half-court offense was the difference. They attacked closeouts, kicked the ball out to shooters, and repeatedly punished Kosice’s help defense with quick extra passes. When Kosice switched screens, Prievidza’s guards exploited the mismatch inside or found open corner shooters. The visitors also won the rebounding battle, limiting Kosice’s second-chance points and forcing long possessions.

Defensively, Prievidza disrupted Kosice’s pick-and-roll coverage, forcing turnovers and turning them into easy transition baskets. Kosice became isolation-heavy as the game wore on, and their shooting percentage dropped with each quarter. By the final period, Prievidza was comfortably controlling tempo and rotating their bench.

Standout Players

Martin Riečan led Prievidza with 24 points, mixing aggressive drives with reliable outside shooting. Lukáš Bíro added 18 points and controlled the pace from the point guard position, while forward Tomáš Kmeť contributed 15 points and 10 rebounds. For Kosice, Peter Sedlák scored 19 points and was one of the few consistent offensive threats, but he received limited support in the second half.

Season Impact

Prievidza’s victory adds important momentum to their Slovenska Basketbalova Liga campaign and reinforces their reputation as a team capable of scoring in bunches. Kosice Wolves, meanwhile, must address their defensive rotations and turnover issues before their next fixture. The loss leaves them needing a quick response to avoid slipping further in the standings.
