Match Overview

SC Braga hosted Lisboa e Benfica in a Club Friendship fixture that promised pace, physicality, and plenty of perimeter scoring. But Benfica’s half-court execution, rebounding, and ability to punish turnovers proved too much over 40 minutes.

The final score of 94-77 reflected Benfica’s control after the break. Braga competed hard on the boards and had stretches of sharp ball movement, but the visitors’ balanced attack and timely three-point shooting made the difference in the second half.

• Second quarter: Benfica 22, Braga 21 — Braga settled in and traded baskets, but Benfica maintained a 46-39 halftime lead.

Key Moments

The game’s turning point arrived midway through the third quarter. With Braga within single digits, Benfica strung together a 12-2 run fueled by back-to-back steals and a pair of corner three-pointers. That burst silenced the home crowd and forced Braga into a timeout it could not fully recover from.

Braga’s best response came early in the fourth, when an 8-0 spurt cut the lead to 12. But Benfica’s half-court offense remained patient, drawing fouls and converting at the free-throw line to keep the margin safe. A late dunk in transition sealed the result and underlined the visitors’ athletic advantage.

Tactical Story

Lisboa e Benfica won this game with defense and spacing. The visitors switched aggressively on screens, clogged the paint, and dared Braga to beat them from the perimeter. Offensively, Benfica used drive-and-kick actions to generate open looks, finishing with a balanced scoring line that made it difficult for Braga to key on any single player.

SC Braga had success when it pushed the tempo and attacked the rim early in the shot clock. However, Benfica’s ability to get back in transition and control the defensive glass limited those easy opportunities. Braga’s half-court sets became predictable in the third quarter, and Benfica capitalized with quick outlets and secondary breaks.

Standout Performers

• Benfica’s backcourt: Controlled the pace, hit timely three-pointers, and finished with a game-high scoring effort. The guards consistently broke down Braga’s first line of defense.
• Benfica’s frontcourt: Protected the rim, won key rebounds, and converted second-chance points. Their interior presence allowed the guards to pressure the ball with confidence.
• Braga’s leading scorer: Kept the home side competitive with aggressive drives and mid-range shooting, especially in the first half.
• Braga’s bench: Provided energy and a brief fourth-quarter spark, but the group could not sustain a run long enough to threaten the lead.

What It Means

The result gives Lisboa e Benfica important momentum in the Club Friendship standings and reinforces their status as a team capable of winning on the road. For SC Braga, the loss is a lesson in sustaining execution for four quarters against a deeper opponent. The head-to-head meeting now favors Benfica, who will look to build on this performance in their next Club Friendship fixture.

Braga, meanwhile, will focus on reducing turnovers and improving third-quarter intensity. The final score of 94-77 may look one-sided, but the game was decided by a concentrated run and Benfica’s ability to execute in pressure moments.
