PEC Zwolle 2–3 AEK Athens | International Club Friendly
AEK Athens edged a seven‑goal thriller in pre‑season, beating PEC Zwolle 3–2 in an entertaining friendly on 26 July 2026. The match provided plenty of action for fans as both sides tested their sharpness ahead of the upcoming campaigns.
First‑Half Fireworks
The game exploded into life early. AEK opened the scoring in the 8th minute when a low cross was turned in at the near post. PEC Zwolle responded just five minutes later, levelling through a well‑struck volley from the edge of the box. The Dutch side then took the lead in the 25th minute after a defensive mix‑up allowed their striker to poke home.
AEK equalised before half‑time with a powerful header from a corner, making it 2–2 at the break.
Second‑Half Decider
The pace slowed slightly in the second half, with both teams making substitutions. The winning goal came in the 67th minute when AEK’s winger cut inside and curled a beautiful shot into the far corner. PEC Zwolle pushed for a third equaliser but were denied by a combination of good goalkeeping and wayward finishing.
Standout Performances
- AEK Athens: The attacking trio looked sharp, with two goals from open play and one from a set piece. The goalkeeper made a crucial save late on to preserve the lead.
- PEC Zwolle: The home side showed character to come from behind but defensive lapses cost them. Their forward line linked well, especially in the first half.
Pre‑Season Significance
Both managers will have gained useful insights. AEK’s pressing and creativity were encouraging, while Zwolle’s attacking movement was a positive but defensive organisation needs work before the Eredivisie kicks off.
