Puskás Akadémia II suffered a narrow 2-1 home defeat against a determined Sárisápi Bányász SE side in Hungary’s Nemzeti Bajnokság III. With kickoff at 17:00 on 6 September 2026, the match produced a compelling contest between the academy's younger developing group and a competitive visiting outfit that defended stubbornly and struck decisively on the counter.

Playing at their familiar training complex, Puskás Akadémia II were expected to dominate possession territory. They controlled large periods of the game and looked lively whenever they moved the ball into the final third. The visitors, though, arrived with a clear plan to frustrate their hosts and stayed compact between the lines.

Fast counter-attacking display from Bányász

Sárisápi Bányász SE opened the scoring in the first half, showing efficiency in front of goal after catching the home defense on the break. Their well-organised press made it difficult for Puskás to establish sustained pressure, and the away side appeared comfortable in a low defensive block. On the stroke of halftime, they extended the lead with another clinical transition, leaving Akadémia facing an uphill task.

After the interval, Puskás Akadémia II pushed numbers forward and enjoyed even more of the ball. They managed to pull a goal back after sustained spells of pressure and set up a frantic ending. However, with key chances squandered and the final pass often lacking precision, the junior academy side was unable to find an equalizer.

Another learning curve for the academy

For Puskás Akadémia II, the result underlines the step-up in physicality and tactical maturity required in NB III. While their development pathway encourages attacking football and technical growth, days like this demonstrate the importance of game management and real penalty-box composure. For Sarisiáp Bányász SE, the away win is a well-earned reward for their disciplined shape and sharp transitions, adding valuable momentum to their league campaign.

The match provides plenty of material for coaches to reflect on rhythm, timing, and the need to convert territorial dominance into points. With the season still young, both sides will look to fine-tune their approaches in the coming rounds of the Hungarian third tier.
