Bregalnica Stip fell to a narrow but costly defeat on Friday night as Shkendija Haracine claimed a gritty 1-0 victory in the North Macedonia First Football League. The result deepens the home side's worries near the lower half of the table, while the visitors earned a precious away win that strengthens their push towards the top end of the standings.

Shkendija arrived at the Gradski Stadion with a clear intention to frustrate Bregalnica and strike on the break. The first chance came on 18 minutes when the visitors' right winger cut inside and forced a sharp save from the home goalkeeper. Bregalnica responded with a spell of pressure, but their best chance of the opening half came just before the interval, as their captain unleashed a powerful drive that whistled narrowly over the crossbar.

The decisive moment arrived in the 63rd minute. A swift counter-attack down the left flank was finished calmly by Shkendija's striker, who slotted the ball low into the far corner after being played in behind the last defender. The home team pushed forward in search of an equalizer but lacked precision in the final third, and Shkendija's defensive block held firm during a nervy final ten minutes.

Bregalnica pay for missed chances

Bregalnica Stip will look back at this match with a degree of regret. They controlled large periods of possession after conceding, yet only managed a single shot on target across the entire 90 minutes. Head coach Igor Andreevski will be concerned by the side's inability to create clear-cut openings, particularly at home where the club has now taken maximum points on only one occasion this season.

Standings pressure is building for Bregalnica, who remain stuck just above the relegation zone. While still very early to judge, these are the types of winnable home matches that often determine survival at the end of a long campaign. The fans, however, will expect an improved attacking display next week when the team travels to face a direct rival in the lower half of the table.

Shkendija Haracine eye a rise

For Shkendija Haracine, this was another sign of their growing maturity. After finishing mid-table last term, the club has visibly strengthened its squad and showed an organized approach against tricky opposition. The victory lifts them into the top six on the early league table and hands them real momentum in a season where several traditional giants are still finding their rhythm.

Shkendija's defensive discipline was central to their success. Their back line, marshaled by experienced center-back Ivan Mitrev, made several crucial blocks and kept Bregalnica at arm's length for most of the second half. With their key striker in confident mood and a compact midfield unit protecting the defense, Shkendija Haracine now have a solid foundation to build upon as the league enters a busy sequence of fixtures.

Final score: Bregalnica Stip 0 - 1 Shkendija Haracine
