Padova 0-2 Carrarese: Finotto and Zuelli Strike as Visitors Claim Derby Spoils

Carrarese secured a valuable 2-0 away victory over Padova in Italian Serie B on Sunday, with second-half goals from Mattia Finotto and Emanuele Zuelli sealing a disciplined performance at the Stadio Euganeo. The result leaves Padova searching for answers after a frustrating night in front of their own supporters.

Match Overview

The first half was a cagey affair, with both sides cautious in possession. Padova tried to build through midfield but found Carrarese's compact 4-4-2 difficult to break down. The visitors sat deep, absorbed pressure, and looked to spring quick counter-attacks through Finotto and Nicolás Schiavi. The best chance of the opening period fell to Padova's striker, but a last-ditch block kept the scoreline level at the break.

Key Moments

• 52' – Mattia Finotto breaks the deadlock, turning neatly in the box and firing low past the Padova goalkeeper.
• 68' – Padova push bodies forward in search of an equaliser, leaving gaps at the back.
• 79' – Emanuele Zuelli doubles the lead with a composed finish from the edge of the area after a swift counter.
• 90+3' – Padova's late header flashes wide as Carrarese hold firm.

Tactical Story

Carrarese's game plan was built on defensive discipline and ruthless transitions. Their midfield screen limited Padova's central creativity, forcing the hosts into hopeful crosses. Once Finotto scored, Padova had to commit more players forward, which played directly into Carrarese's hands. The visitors' second goal was a textbook counter-attack, finished with real quality by Zuelli.

Standout Players

Finotto was the focal point of Carrarese's attack, holding the ball up and linking play before delivering the crucial opener. Zuelli's energy in midfield and his well-taken goal made him another standout. For Padova, the goalkeeper made several saves to keep the score respectable, but the forward line lacked a cutting edge.

Serie B Table Impact

Carrarese move up the Serie B table with this win, strengthening their push for a play-off place. Padova remain dangerously close to the relegation zone and will need to improve their home form quickly. The visitors' away supporters celebrated long after the final whistle, while Padova's players left the pitch to a chorus of frustration.
