Rivers United Dominate Plateau United in 2-0 Nigerian Premier League Victory

Rivers United moved up the Nigeria Premier League standings with a commanding 2-0 victory over Plateau United at home. The Port Harcourt side produced a composed and physical performance to claim all three points in front of their vocal supporters.

From the outset, Rivers United took control of midfield and pinned Plateau United deep in their own half. The opening goal arrived in the 23rd minute when a quick interchange down the right wing ended with a low cross being swept into the net from close range. The goal lifted the confidence of the home side, who continued to press for a second.

Second Goal Seals the Win

Plateau United attempted to respond after the break, seeing more of the ball and forcing a couple of saves from the Rivers United goalkeeper. But the visitors were caught on the counter-attack in the 67th minute, as a clever through ball split their back line and the forward made no mistake with a calm finish into the far corner.

The result was a crucial one for Rivers United, who have shown steady improvement this season. Their defensive organization was notable, with the centre-back pairing winning nearly every aerial duel and snuffing out Plateau United’s attacking threat. For Plateau United, defeat in Port Harcourt halts their recent momentum and leaves them looking for answers on the road.

Looking ahead: Rivers United will take great confidence from this result as they aim for a top-three finish, while Plateau United must quickly reset ahead of their next league fixture.
