Sportlust’46 and VPV Purmersteijn played out an entertaining 1-1 draw in their Derde Divisie opener on Saturday night, with both sides producing bright attacking moments but ultimately sharing the spoils in a match that could have gone either way.
The home side struck first midway through the first half, converting a well-worked move from the left wing. Purmersteijn responded well and levelled just after the hour mark with a powerful shot from the edge of the box, setting up a tense finale in which both goalkeepers were called into action.
A lively start from Sportlust’46
Sportlust’46 came flying out of the blocks and made their intentions clear from the first whistle. Their high intensity and quick passing created several early chances, and it came as no surprise when they took the lead in the 32nd minute. A clever run in behind the defence allowed the winger to collect a through ball and square it for an easy finish.
Purmersteijn, though, showed character and composure. They slowly grew into the match, keeping possession well and forcing Sportlust to drop deeper as the first half drew to a close.
A well-taken equaliser and an open finish
The equaliser arrived in the 62nd minute. A cleared corner was picked up just outside the area, and the Purmersteijn midfielder made no mistake with a crisp half-volley that flew into the bottom corner. It was a moment of real quality and a reward for the visitors’ patient approach.
The final twenty minutes were end-to-end, with both teams pushing for what would have been a winning goal. Sportlust’46 struck the post through a substitute, while Purmersteijn forced a fine reflex save from the home goalkeeper in injury time. In the end, a draw was probably a fair result in a match that offered plenty of entertainment.
Looking ahead in the Derde Divisie
This opening day point gives both clubs something to build on. Sportlust’46 showed their strength in wide areas and their ability to create chances, while VPV Purmersteijn proved their resilience and scoring threat away from home.
Derde Divisie matches are often decided by small margins, and both sides will know they need to be more clinical in front of goal in the rounds to come.
